Australian earthquake - Burakin, WA

25 March 2002

An earthquake occurred at 9.16 p.m. (Perth time) on Saturday 23 March in the vicinity of Burakin, Western Australia. The quake measured 4.7 on the Richter scale.

Residents nearby in Kalannie and residents of Perth felt the earthquake, but there have been no reports of damage. Three small aftershocks were recorded within one hour of the event.

The epicentre is located roughly ten kilometres north-west of Burakin. This earthquake is the strongest since March 5th of this year.

Geoscience Australia is the earthquake-monitoring agency of the Commonwealth Government.
