Geophysicists converge on Adelaide

14 February 2003

On Sunday 16 February 2003, scientists from Geoscience Australia will converge on Adelaide along with 500 colleagues from Australia and the world, for the 16th Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists Conference and Exhibition.

The theme of the conference is 'growth through innovation' - growth of mineral and petroleum reserves, corporate growth and professional growth, all of which are underpinned by innovation in the geoscience industry.

Scientists from Geoscience Australia will be presenting on a range of topics. As well as ongoing study into geophysical applications in mineral and petroleum exploration, research in salinity and groundwater systems, earthquake hazards in Australia and environmental monitoring will also be presented.

Chris Pigram from Geoscience Australia said, "This conference is a showcase for the latest ideas and developments in geophysics, and is one of the largest geoscience conferences in Australia."

He continues, "It provides Geoscience Australia the opportunity to show a selection of the wide variety of activities that it is doing supporting mineral and petroleum exploration and hazard mitigation."

Geoscience Australia scientists will be available for interview during the conference if you wish to talk to them about their research.
