Where on Earth is...

Wednesday 15 May 2002

Do you know where the Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park is? If it's in Australia, it'll be a breeze to find thanks to the latest Gazetteer of Australia, available on Geoscience Australia's website.

An up-to-date database of more than 270,000 authorised geographical place names is available to search online, free of charge. The entire database is available on CD as a packaged product for $540.

More than 7000 additions and tens of thousands of updates are included in this version. It's the ultimate resource to accurately locate places in Australia.

The Gazetteer is compiled by Geoscience Australia with the support of the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) and data supplied by the geographical names boards in the states and territories.

By the way, Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park is in Melbourne – but you probably knew that anyway.

Getting to the gazetteer

Just enter the words 'place names' into the Search box on the Geoscience Australia homepage – the Gazetteer is the first item listed on the results page.
