Large overseas earthquake - Banda Sea

2 November 2002

Darwin residents this afternoon felt an earthquake measuring 5.5 which occurred about 600kms north of Darwin in the Banda Sea at 1.40 pm Australian Eastern Summer Time.

Typically an earthquake of this size occurs in the Banda Sea two or three times a year and is felt by Darwin residents.

It is unlikely to cause any damage.
