05 June 2001 - CMR291-01 Media ReleasesSort by Date Seismic activity in Sutton area6 December 2002 Geoscience Australia has recorded increased seismic activity in the Sutton area, about 20km north-east of Canberra, since Sunday 1 December. Over the past four days there have been nine earthquakes with magnitudes ranging between 1.1 and 1.8 which have been felt by local residents. Geoscience Australia has installed a dial-up seismometer instrument in Sutton to continue monitoring the situation. Similar swarms of earthquakes occurred in the Sutton area in January and February this year, when the largest event had a magnitude of 2.5.
