The magnitude 2.8 earthquake was felt by local residents. A small earthquake occurred at the same time in the Timor Sea. The most recent earthquake in the area was a magnitude 3.5 on 4 February 2003 at Karratha, which was also widely felt by residents. www.ga.gov.au
