Magnitude 2.8 earthquake hits Port Hedland

For immediate release, Monday 26th May 2003

A small earthquake occurred today in Port Hedland, Western Australia at 06.28am local time (22.28 UT).

The magnitude 2.8 earthquake was felt by local residents.

A small earthquake occurred at the same time in the Timor Sea.

The most recent earthquake in the area was a magnitude 3.5 on 4 February 2003 at Karratha, which was also widely felt by residents.
