1. Onshore Energy Security Program Seismic Survey Data Releases
Rankins Springs Seismic Survey
As part of the Onshore Energy Security Program and in conjunction with the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Geoscience Australia conducted a deep crustal seismic reflection survey in the Rankins Springs and Yathong troughs of the Darling Basin in March 2008. Two traverse lines totalling 234km were acquired and the SEG Y data and un-interpreted sections will be available to industry from 20 October 2008 by emailing Jenny Maher or by telephone within Australia 02 6249 9896 or International +61 2 6249 9896.
Gawler-Curnamona-Arrowie seismic survey
Geoscience Australia also has undertaken acquisition of seismic reflection in South Australia recently as part of the Onshore Energy Security Program. This survey consisted of three traverse lines, one across the Gawler province (253km), another across the Curnamona province (262km) and a third in the Arrowie Basin (60.4km). Because of strong interest from industry the unprocessed basic data for the Arrowie Basin traverse is available now by emailing Jenny Maher or contact her by telephone within Australia 02 6249 9896 or International +61 2 6249 9896. The unprocessed basic data for the Gawler and Curnamona traverse lines will be available in early November 2008 after it is fully checked. Geoscience Australia will commence processing of this data in 2009 with the aim of releasing it to industry by mid 2009.
For further information on these surveys or a request for data can be made by emailing Jenny Maher or contact her by telephone within Australia 02 6249 9896 or International +61 2 6249 9896.
2. Australia's Identified Minerals Resources 2008 (AIMR) - release of commodity chapters online
The latest mineral resource commodity chapters for AIMR2008 are now on the Australian Mines Atlas website, which is maintained by Geoscience Australia. The commodity chapters are available ahead of the full PDF version of AIMR2008 which is published annually and is scheduled to be released online this month.
For further information, email Aden McKay, or contact him by telephone within Australia 02 6249 9230 or International +61 2 6249 9230.
3. Update on geophysical data releases
The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table.
The Byro airborne magnetic and radiometric survey data has been released.
For further information, email Murray Richardson or contact him by telephone within Australia 02 6249 9229 or International +61 2 6249 9229.
4. Useful Geoscience Australia websites - NATMAP Digital Maps - 2008 Release
Emergency and natural resource managers, industry representatives, educators, adventurers and travellers will benefit from a new DVD mapping resource available from Geoscience Australia. NATMAP Digital Maps 2008 is the next generation of Geoscience Australia's popular NATMAP Raster 1:250 000 scale topographic digital maps. NATMAP Digital Maps 2008 are exact digital copies of Geoscience Australia's NATMAP topographic maps. They cover the whole of Australia at 1:250 000 scale and are current to 2006.
