1. Radiometric Map of Australia - digital data update

The digital gridded radiometric datasets that are part of the Radiometric Map of Australia product have been updated with data recently acquired by the State Geological Surveys and Geoscience Australia. The updated grids were released via the Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System (GADDS) on 1 July 2009.

This updated release also contains a new radiometric ratio grid - U2/Th - which will directly assist exploration for uranium.

2. Airborne electromagnetic data for Woolner Granite area of Pine Creek Project

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) data for the Woolner Granite area of the Pine Creek Project in the Northern Territory will be released on 10 July 2009. Flight lines acquired for Geoscience Australia were collected with line spacings of 5km and 1.66km and were locally infilled to 555m with funding from the National Water Commission. The survey area covers much of the Darwin 1:250 000 Sheet and extends from southwest of Darwin to the western boundary of Kakadu National Park, and from the northern coast line to Rum Jungle. The geology surveyed includes the Archean Rum Jungle Complex, non-outcropping Woolner Granite and surrounding Paleoproterozoic Pine Creek Orogen rocks. The survey also acquired data over laterally extensive areas of Mesozoic sediment and Cenozoic cover materials, including estuarine mud-flats. Notable mineral occurrences in the survey area include Toms Gully (Au), Woodcutters (Pb, Cu, Zn, Ag), White's (U, Cu, Co, Pb) and Browns (Pb, Cu, Ni).

The survey results will provide information on the conductivities of a wide variety of surface and near-surface materials which will aid exploration in the region. In particular, the data will assist by mapping the distribution of graphitic schists, a favoured host rock for unconformity related uranium deposits.

The Pine Creek - Woolner Granite Area TEMPEST AEM Survey data will be available from 10 July 2009.

3. Broken Hill Exploration Initiative Conference

A conference will be held in Broken Hill from 29 September - 1 October 2009 to report on new insights into exploration geoscience in the Curnamona Craton and adjacent areas. This is being organised jointly by the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries, Primary Industries and Resources South Australia, and Geoscience Australia.

Further information on this conference can be found on the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries website, or email russell.korsch@ga.gov.au or phone +61 2 6249 9495.

4. Update on geophysical data releases

The current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table on the Geoscience Australia website.

The Pine Creek (Woolner and Rum Jungle) data is scheduled for release on 10 July 2009.
