Submissions for a national Digital Elevation Model
Geoscience Australia is calling for submissions to assist in identifying the need for, and specifications for, a higher resolution digital elevation model (DEM) data of Australia.
This would supplement the existing 9 Second DEM data, which is computed from topographic information including point elevation data, elevation contours, stream lines and cliff lines with grid spacing of 9 seconds in longitude and latitude (approximately 250 metres).
DEM data is an important tool for emergency services, land-use planners, mineral exploration companies, aircraft operators, agriculturalists and scientists in many fields from botany to climatology.
The views expressed in submissions will assist in determining the sources, methodologies and specifications for any future DEM.
