Access to key geological information about Australia's geological provinces, will become easier through the Australian Geological Provinces Database.

The database can now be accessed online, with data for several Australian provinces now available. Data for other provinces will become progressively accessible as the database is populated.

The ready availability of information about Australia's geological provinces will assist exploration for mineral and petroleum resources within Australia.

Geological provinces are groups of rocks that have similar geological characteristics, such as rock type, age, and the geological processes that may have deformed or changed them.

Australia has many geological provinces, including the Yilgarn in Western Australia, which contains large gold and nickel deposits.
