34th International Geological Congress, AUSTRALIA 2012

This prestigious Congress, called AUSTRALIA 2012, is expected to attract at least 5,000 delegates from about 100 countries. To be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in August 2012, it will showcase the region’s geoscience strengths, innovations and natural wonders.

The organising body for the Congress is the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, the peak council of geoscientists in Australia, which represents nine major Australian geoscientific societies with more than 7,000 professional members.

A strong and experienced International Geological Congress Preparatory Committee has been convened already. The President and Secretary General are Drs Neil Williams and Ian Lambert, both of Geoscience Australia.

Key stakeholders in AUSTRALIA 2012 are the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Geoscience Council, the International Geological Congress Preparatory Committee, Geoscience Australia, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Queensland Government through the Queensland Events Corporation, the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences and the South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission.

For more information about participating in AUSTRALIA 2012, please contact: Dr Ian Lambert, or visit the International Geological Congress.
