To officially launch Earth Science Week activities in Australia this year, we will be holding our annual Open Day on 12 October 2008.  Earth Science Week runs from 12 - 18 October 2008.

Earth Science Week promotes awareness of and an opportunity to celebrate the earth sciences. The 2008 Earth Science Week theme is 'No child left inside' announced by the American Geological Institute. This theme encourages young people to get away from the television, off the computer and explore outside.

Earth Science Week in Australia has interpreted this theme as 'Outside science', engaging in the world of geoscience beyond the classroom and laboratory.

The Geologi Short Film Competition 2008

In recognition of Earth Science Week 2008, Geoscience Australia is hosting the Geologi 08. All Australian secondary school students are invited to take part by submitting a short science film.
