Help

Map Controls

Legend of tools for controlling the map.

Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to focus on your area of interest.

Use the Full Extent button to return the map to the default extent.

Use the Previous Extent button to undo a zoom action.

Use the Pan button to navigate the map by clicking and dragging your mouse to move the map. Double click, or scroll your mouse wheel upwards, to zoom in. Scroll your mouse wheel downwards to zoom out. Hold shift, click and drag to form a box of interest to zoom in to.

Use the Zoom Box button then click and drag to form a box of interest to zoom in to.

Use the Information button to query AFGN stations by either; clicking on a station marker, or clicking and dragging to form a query box of interest. The query results will be displayed in the lower right pane.

Use the Layers button to change the base layer of the map.

The reference map can be minimised by using the button in the lower right.

To expand or contract the right side pane click and drag the vertical bar that is to the immediate right of the map.

Search for a Location

  1. Enter a location - locations can be searched by longitude and latitude or name.
    • Long/Lat: enter a decimal longitude and latitude (or latitude and longitude) separated by a comma (eg, 150,-35.5). Note that for Australia, latitudes are negative. Values entered in degrees, minutes, seconds are currently not supported.
    • Name: enter a place name location, variant name, state abbreviation and/or postcode within Australia.
  2. Matching locations will be displayed in the lower right pane as a you type or after pressing the search button.
  3. Select a location. Station results will be shown within 50 kilometres of the selected location.
  4. Enter a radius, or use the slider, for the approximate distance in which to refine your search.
  5. Press the Refine button.

AFGN Station Details

Search query results will be listed in the lower right pane. Click on the Station heading to expand the listing to reveal all the station details. Click on the Station heading again to contract an expanded Station.

Click on the Station thumbnails to expand the full size image. Click and drag the full size image to move it within the browser window.

Print Friendly Page

This page provides a map of the area as seen on the base page. Below that the station details are provided including thumbnails of any diagrams or photographs. On the next page/s the photographs/diagrams are enlarged for better viewing. Use your web browser's Print Preview to see the layout of the station description.
