Geoscience Australia actively participates in many cooperative projects at all levels of government and industry. These projects are aimed at promoting standards and providing a simpler interface between Geoscience Australia and our partners and clients.

Cooperative Research

As part of its commitment to eGovernment, Geoscience Australia is an active member of several Cooperative Research Centres.

Currently, Geoscience Australia contributes to the following centres:

• Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRC-SI)
• Australian Petroleum Cooperative Research Centre (APCRC)
• Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environment and Minerals (CRC LEME)
• Predictive Mineral Discovery Cooperative Research Centre (PMD*CRC)
• Cooperative Research Centre for Coastal Zone, Estuary and Waterway Management

Standards & Policy Initiatives

Geoscience Australia is a leader in the development of standards and policies in many aspects of geology, geophysics and spatial information. We currently contribute to the following standards and policy initiatives:

• Australian Spatial Data Infrastructure (ASDI) is a national initiative to provide better access for all Australians to essential spatial data.
• Australian Spatial Data Directory (ASDD) provides search interfaces to geospatial dataset descriptions.
• Office of Spatial Data Management (OSDM) provides a wide range of information about the Australian Government's spatial data policy, including details about related cross-portfolio coordination bodies.
• Australia and New Zealand Land Information Council (ANZLIC) is the peak council for public sector spatial data management in Australia and New Zealand.
• Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) provides leadership through coordination and cooperation in surveying, mapping and charting.
