|Between October 2008 and February 2009, Geoscience Australia undertook two major marine surveys off south Western Australia to investigate the resource potential of deep-water frontier areas on the southwest margin. The surveys were undertaken as part of the Southwest Frontiers Project in the Offshore Energy Security Program. The Minister for Energy and Resources, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP, released the initial results in Perth on 14 April 2010. As part of the data release Geoscience Australia produced a video showing the work undertaken during the surveys, why they took place and some of the results. PLAY|
Radiometric Map of Australia promotional movie - Revealing Australia's Secrets
||This short movie tells the story of the making of the Radiometric Map of Australia. Scientists at Geoscience Australia have, for the first time, been able to produce a map of Australia showing the distribution of the radioactive elements Potassium, Uranium and Thorium across the continent using airborne geophysical data that have taken over 30 years to acquire. This movie explores the questions: What have we done that is special; Why is it special; How did it all start - history; What is gamma-ray spectrometry; What was the problem encountered and how was it solved; Who uses the map.
