The team at the N H (Doc) Fisher Geoscience Library welcomes visitors and researchers. If you want to discover the geology of your next holiday destination, find Australian geoscientific information or keep up to date with recent geoscience literature, the library team can help you with a range of services and resources.

Information services

The library has a comprehensive collection of Australian geoscience publications and information as well as material from many other countries. The library team can assist you to locate timely and relevant material using the library catalogue and online research databases such as GeoRef, AusGeoRef, and GeoBase. These resources, along with many other research databases, are available on computer for visitors to the Library.

Join the library

The library offers external corporate and individual membership which provides the opportunity to borrow material from the collection for periods of up to four weeks. The current membership fees are:

  • Individual: AU$110.00 (incl.GST)
  • Corporate: AU$550.00 (incl.GST)

Document supply

The N H (Doc) Fisher Geoscience Library can supply most material from the collection to libraries around Australia and the world through a document supply service. Requests from libraries are accepted through the Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD) system via mail, fax, or ill.library@ga.gov.au. Service levels and charges are based on the Australian Library and Information Association Interlibrary Resource Sharing (ILRS) Code.

Priority is given to requests which have been verified as correct through a recognised indexing source, such as GeoRef. Standard delivery time is five working days, but priority (48 hours), rush (24 hours) and express (2 hours) delivery times are available.

Requests must comply with the Australian Copyright Act 1968, as amended.
