This image shows settlement in the middle surrounded by bright green areas which indicate healthy grasses and agricultural cultivation.
The ETM Plus Sensor on board the Landsat 7 satellite can detect infrared radiation which is generated by any form of heat. These 'hot spots' show up as red areas on the image. They can be caused by such elements as fire, tin roofs, concrete slabs and cars.
Cloud cover, which is seen in purple and white, casts dark shadows over the land below.
Areas with no vegetation are shown in varying shades of brown.
