Landsat 8 launched successfully by NASA

On Tuesday 12 February 2013 at 5:04am Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time Landsat 8 was launched successfully by NASA and United Launch Alliance on an Atlas V rocket.

The mission will extend more than 40 years of Earth observation by Landsat providing data that will be used for environmental monitoring, energy and water management, health and disease studies, urban planning and disaster response. Geoscience Australia looks forward to cooperating with the United States Geological Survey as the mission develops. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
