Rock Files

Kindly provided by the Minerals Council of Australia these Rock Files are a series of web pages which describe the properties, uses and sources of key minerals produced by the Australian mining industry.

Each of the Rock Files is hosted by the Australian Mines Atlas which is maintained by Geoscience Australia.

National

The Australian Museum has a section devoted to geoscience in Australia. The Museum keeps the Albert Chapman Mineral Collection which is on permanent display.

The Minerals Council of Australia offers interactive resources for sale to teach secondary students about mineral resources in Australia. The Minerals Council also offers commodity information sheets through the Australian Mines Atlas.

New South Wales

The New South Wales Department of Primary Industries offers minerals educational resources relating to New South Wales.

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry, Fisheries and Mines provides a Gem and Minerals Dictionary based on work from the Northern Territory Geological Survey .

Queensland

The Queensland Government, Department of Natural Resources and Mines provides Geoscience and resource information as well as information on exploration, mining and petroleum in Queensland.

South Australia

The South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Resources provides educational resources for teachers.

Victoria

The Victorian Department of Primary Industries offers an overview of Victoria's geology . The department also provides minerals information on commodities produced in Victoria.

Western Australia

The University of Western Australia owns and operates the Edward de Courcy Clarke Earth Science Museum which is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and on Sunday afternoons.
