Petroleum Geology

Australia is relatively under-explored by international standards. Obtaining basic geoscience knowledge is important for attracting international investment in exploration. Such knowledge helps sustain Australia's oil and gas self-sufficiency.

Geological summaries, maps, figures and key references for Australia's major sedimentary basins are available by selecting the region of interest below.

Information on Australia's onshore and offshore sedimentary basins is also available from Geoscience Australia's Australian Geological Provinces Database. This database can be interactively queried and the results retrieved as reports and maps.
