You can search for studies in a highlighted area on the map, in the Catchment or Local Government Area for a town or map point, or certain other (non-geospatial) metadata items.
Highlight the search area by either:
Click the Search button. The system displays all studies where the geographic centre of the study area is inside the highlighted area.
Highlight a point on the map by either:
Set the Include Studies in Same to Catchment or Local Government Area.
Click the search button. The system displays all studies where the geographic centre of the study area is inside the same region as the highlighted point.
Use the Advanced Options to refine a map-based search, or on their own. All parameters are cumulative - the system will only return studies that meet every condition.
Use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to focus on your area of interest.
Use the Full Extent button to return the map to the default extent.
Use the Previous Extent button to undo the previous zoom action.
Use the Pan button to navigate the map by clicking and dragging your mouse to move the map. Double click, or scroll your mouse wheel upwards, to zoom in. Scroll your mouse wheel downwards to zoom out. Hold shift, click and drag to form a box of interest to zoom in to.
Use the Zoom box button then click and drag to form a box of interest to zoom in to.
Use the Bounding box button to return all results in a bounding box of four points defined by its four corners. The corresponding coordinates will be displayed in the Bounds fields.
Use the Point marker button to select a point on the map. The corresponding coordinates will be displayed in the Latitude and Longitude fields.
After performing a Search, use the Information button to query a Flood Study marker by either clicking on an individual marker, or clicking and dragging to form a query box of interest. The corresponding Flood Study will be displayed in the Detail pane.
Use the Layers button to change the base layer and overlays of the map.
To expand or contract the right side pane click and drag the vertical bar that is to the immediate right of the map.
Use the Print Friendly link at the top right hand corner of the screen to print any of the content on this website.
Many studies have documents in their record. You can download from the Attachments section directly. If the study you're interested in has no attachments, contact the Commissioning organisation.
A Flood Study is a comprehensive technical investigation of flood behaviour. It defines the nature and extent flood hazard across the floodplain by providing information on the extent, level and velocity of floodwaters and on the distribution of flood flows.
The database provides metadata on Australian flood studies and information on flood risk. It contains general information for all studies, including the study location, date, commissioning organisation and lead consultant. Additional information reflects the scope of a flood study.
The database acts as an information management tool for all levels of government and contributes to flood intelligence. It also enables organisations wishing to commission a flood study (particularly small councils with less experience with flooding or risk analysis) to learn from the work that has been undertaken in other regions.
