The Orroral SLR Observatory was operated by National Mapping and AUSLIG from 1972 until 1998. The observatory closed on 31 October 1998 and was replaced by a new facility located on Mt Stromlo.

Located 70 kilometres south of Canberra, Australia, in the Namadgi National Park, the observatory played an important role in the Australian and International geodetic framework for more than 25 years. Image showing an overhead view of the Orroral Observatory.
