Monitoring the CTBT

Geoscience Australia supports Australia’s commitment to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) by engaging in monitoring of seismic, infrasound and hydroacoustic data collected by the International Monitoring System (IMS) for potential nuclear explosions worldwide. The IMS is a global network of monitoring stations and laboratories, administered by the CTBT Organization (CTBTO), to provide seismic, infrasound, hydroacoustic and radionuclide data in real-time to member states, via the International Data Centre (IDC) in Vienna, to allow verification of the CTBT.
