Geoscience Australia Cadetships

Cadetship banner

Geoscience Australia offers a unique Cadetship program, which began with the recruitment of five ANU cadets in 2007. We are looking for bright, enthusiastic people with a proficiency in science and maths, who are currently in Year 12 and/or are about to start studying at university or the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT).

This scheme has been created to encourage people into geoscience and geospatial careers that are rewarding, exciting and diverse. Cadets are exposed to many different working environments. This experience in the professional arena will help them make informed decisions about their future career pathways in the geoscience and geospatial environments. All cadets participate in a specially designed program that incorporates a number of varied professional work experience placements combined with academic mentoring. The program will also help generate future employees for Geoscience Australia.

Cadetships are available to students enrolled in the following courses:

  • Bachelor of Global and Ocean Sciences (Honours) at the Australian National University (ANU); or
  • Advanced Diploma in Spatial Information Services at the CIT.

In addition to the five selected in 2007, an additional four cadets were selected for the program in 2008 and will commence their second rotation projects during the summer semester break.

For future ANU applicants, applications for the 2009 Cadetships program will open in April 2009.

For future CIT applicants, more information will be available from this web page in October 2008.
