Introduction to Geoscience Australia

We are Australia’s national agency for geoscience research and geospatial information and we are located within the Australian Government Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

By producing first-class geoscientific information and knowledge, Geoscience Australia assists the Australian Government and the community to make informed decisions about the use of resources, the management of the environment and the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.

Geoscience Australia’s activities cover three broad areas:

• onshore and offshore exploration research;
• the use of cutting-edge technologies; and
• spatial information.
