Simple Mapping System - Help

The simple mapping system allows the user to zoom in and out and to pan around the map. The user can map a number of themes, or access RISK information by suburb. Only one theme can be selected at any time. Roads and rivers appear automatically when the user zooms in.

To make a map:

  1. Select an action using the radio buttons at the top of the page. When making new maps you must select either same scale, zoom in , or zoom out.
  2. Select a theme to map. The themes for various risk types are listed in the drop-down menu at the top of the page. You can only select one theme at a time.
  3. Press the GO button at the top of the page if you wish to make a new map with the same centre point as the current map. If you wish to recentre the map (pan), simply click on the map at the new centre point.
To get risk information for each suburb:
You can either:
  1. Select the Get suburb information radion button at the top of the page and then click on the map at the point you wish to find information.
    or
  2. Select the suburb you are interested in from the drop down menu below the map.

The suburb information page will provide risk assessment information for all categories.

Advanced Mapping System - Help

This mapping system allows the user to add a variety of coverages, zoom in and out, pan, and select the attributes of various entities.

The mapping system opens with the Cairns coastline coverage active. The user can add coverages by selecting them from the menus at the left of the map (use the ctrl or shift keys (PC) to select multiple coverages).

The first menu (at 1.) allows the user to select an action. Browse mode is used for panning the map and for zooming in and out. The remaining options allow the user to access attribute information for the coverage they have selected, or to obtain a co-ordinate for a point clicked on.

The second menu (at 2.) allows the user to select themes for the map. Any number can be selected at a time, but remember that some themes may mask others. Slower coverages are separated and take longer to draw.

The third menu (at 3.) allows the user to zoom in and out. There are limits on how far you can zoom in and out. The program will tell you if you exceed these limits.

The user may click on the map to initiate an action and recentre the map on the point clicked, or just click GO to initiate an action without recentring the map.
