Copyright for the Christmas Island Online GIS

(C) Commonwealth of Australia 1987-2004.

This work is copyright. Data displayed in this system are copyright of the Commonwealth of Australia. The cadastral boundaries displayed in the ground audit layer are maintained by the Western Australian Department of Lands Administration (DOLA) under a 'Service Delivery Arrangement' to the Commonwealth.

The collection of other data displayed in this CIGIS web prototype was contracted out by Territories Office to various Commonwealth and State government agencies at various times during the last ten years via several independent consultancy agreements.

Apart from any fair dealings for the purposes of study, research, criticism or review, as permitted under the Copyright Act, no part may be reproduced by any process without written permission other than the following exception.

The Attorney-General's Department grant you permission to use and transmit maps, metadata sheets and data query results from the CIGIS web-map prototype as unaltered and complete web-captured bitmap images and text in both hardcopy or electronic form for the purposes of dissemination of information about Christmas Island. Such information dissemination does not require the above mentioned written permission but is required to include identification of source. Accordingly Attorney-General's or Geoscience Australia logos are not to be removed form web-captured pages or maps.

Copyright is the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer, Attorney-General's Department.

The GIS datasets were recast and assembled by the Mineral Resources and Advice Group of Geoscience Australia as part of a project assessing opportunities for further mining of the phosphate resources on Christmas Island in balance with nature conservation and related land use management and planning issues (Christmas Island GIS technical paper of 1997).

A description of each dataset including lineage, positional accuracy and data formats can be viewed in the following metadata pages:

  • 1:1000 Topographic data based on 1987 aerial photography.
  • Orthophotography created from the 1987 aerial photography.
  • 2004 Ground Audit data from Department of Land Administration with attributes added from Australian Land Information Group(AUSLIG) and Territories Office. Only a small subset of available attributes are displayed in the CIGIS.
