Graduates and cadets from Geoscience Australia will work side by side with secondary students exploring for gold during the 2008 National Youth Science Forum (NYSF).

Nearly forty senior science students from all over Australia will be looking for gold in a remote region of WA using the latest exploration technology when they visit Geoscience Australia as part of the NYSF. During the half-day workshop, students will use real data from the goldfields of WA and conduct hands-on laboratory work to assist in their quest.

Students will be guided by Geoscience Australia graduates, cadets and geoscientists who will provide an insight into geoscience research and the variety of careers and opportunities available in the geosciences.

Geoscience Australia offers unique career opportunities, with an annual graduate intake and a new cadetship scheme which offers placements to students from the Australian National University and the Canberra Institute of Technology.

The National Youth Science Forum is a two-week program held in Canberra in January each year and is designed for students moving into Year 12 who are considering careers in science, engineering and technology.
