Broken Hill interpreted lithologyNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703002360 Title: Broken Hill interpreted lithology CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: A map extending outcropping geological units below shallow cover, based in large part on identification of magnetic features. Access constraints: Licence and fee required Order ProductData qualityLineage: A combination of interpreted lithology by AGSO and Broken Hill 1:25000 geology Arc/Info dataset by New South Wales Department of Mineral Resources. Dataset printed as 1:25000 Interpreted lithology of Broken Hill. Geology dataset mapped at 1:12000, interpreted lithology mapped at 1:12000. Geology dataset completed 31-DEC-1997, Interpreted lithology completed 31-DEC-1998. Acquisition of interpreted lithology was by high precision scanning, warping and vectorisation. Solid outcrop geology was extracted into a separate database in Arc/Info. The solid geology and interpreted lithology datasets were combined in Arc/Info. Positional accuracy: Based primarily on 1:25000 geological map supplied in digital form by New South Wales Department of Mineral Resources which was derived from 1:12000 airphotos. It is intuitively estimated that nearly all outcrop boundaries are within 100m of their true position. It is intuitively estimated that the interpreted lithology boundaries, which are derived from aero magnetic images with 20m pixel size, are nearly all within 50m of their true position. Attribute accuracy: The attributes represented by this geology data are lithology of outcropping and subcropping rock information which were derived from detailed company reports, and airphoto interpretations. The data could be expected to be consistent across the area. The lithological unit is a categorical attribute, stated in attached lookup table LITHINT.LUT and detailing the unit description. The line attributes are not standard agso descriptions due to the none standard nature of the data. AGSO_CODE - 212 the standard is 'Geological boundary, postion approximate' LITHINT description is 'Outcrop unit boundary' AGSO_CODE - 213 the standard is 'Geological boundary, inferred' LITHINT description is 'Interpreted unit boundary' The attribute accuracy, as the closeness to field reality, is unknown considering the fuzzy distribution and the heterogeneity of the primary attribute, lithology. Logical Consistency: The data was produced as a coverage in Arc/Info, polygons and arcs have all been attributed. Topological consistency checks have been carried out using the GIS package (Arc/Info) to do checks to detect flaws in the spatial data structure and to flag them as errors. This check insures that all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at the intersection of lines and that there is only one label within each polygon, etc. Completeness: Interpreted lithology for Broken Hill 1:25000 block complete.
