Tanami Regolith mapping datasetsNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703002966 Title: Tanami Regolith mapping datasets CustodianCustodian: Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Provides regional framework study of regolith and associated landforms over the Tanami region. Datasets are all contained in a GIS - these include regolith-landform units, enhanced Landsat TM imagery, site descriptions and photo links, regolith profiles descriptions (geochemistry and PIMA), drill hole geochemistry, gamma-ray spectrometry imagery, palaeochannels, geochemical sampling strategy maps, surface flow vector maps, enhanced DEMs, erosional scarps and maps showing depth of transported cover. Access constraints: Licence required. Order ProductData qualityLineage: Regolith-landform polygons were compiled from airphotos, satellite and geophysical imagery. Compilation sheet at 1:80 000 scale were scanned, cleaned and attributed using ArcInfo GIS software. Site data was entered in RTMAP databases and then extracted to make a point attribute file in ArcInfo. Sites were recorded using a GPS with +/- accuracy 70 metres. Structural lineaments were compiled from Landsat TM, gamma-ray spectrometry and the national 9 second digital elevation model. These lines were scanned and attributed using ArcInfo GIS. Imaged datasets including gamma-ray spectrometry, DEM, gravity, magnetics and satellite Landsat TM were all enhanced in ERmapper. Images were then converted in band interleaved (BIL) format for inclusion into the ArcInfo, Arcview and MapInfo GIS. The Geology theme has been compiled from historical datasets and does not reflect current Geoscience Australia standards. Positional accuracy: GPS +/- 70 metres for site observations and sample collection. Regolith compiled using 1:80 000 aerial photographs, Landsat TM (30 m pixels) and gamma-ray spectrometry imagery (400 to 1.5km line spacing) Attribute accuracy: Map units compiled with 1:80 000 air photos, Landsat TM (30 m accuracy) and gamma-ray spectrometry (100 - 200 m accuracy) Logical Consistency: Data have been checked visually on plots and for topological consistency using in-house routines and ArcInfo GIS software. As much as possible, every effort has been made to ensure that the accuracy and standards of the regolith maps are consistent. Completeness: The regolith-landform maps have been compiled at 1:80 000 scale. Hard copy maps are produced at 1:500 000 and 1:100 000 scale Contact information
