Great Australian Bight. Basement framework from potential field studies and regional petroleum geologyNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703003066 Title: Great Australian Bight. Basement framework from potential field studies and regional petroleum geology CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: In support of the 1999 Federal Goverment release of petroleum exploration areas in the Great Australian Bight, the Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO), in collaboration with Desmond Fitzgerald and Associates (DFA), undertook a study of the regional geology of the Great Australian Bight. A key component of the study was the progressive upgrading of gravity, magnetic and bathymetric data using techniques developed by AGSO and DFA in order to define the basement architecture of the the region. The data package contains an Arcview GIS and two reports in PDF format, 1) Basement studies in the Great Australian Bight . 2) Regional geology and an Assesment of petroleum systems and play types in the Bight Basin, Great Australian Bight. Access constraints: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia Licence Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: The key components of this study were the production of a range of interpretation products from basic potential field grids, and the interpretation of basement architecture based on the grids, the onshore geology and the regional seismic data. Please refer to the metadata of the individual datasets contained on the data package for a description of their lineage. Positional accuracy: Accuracy of individual datasets varies, please see dataset metadata included on the data package for positional accuracy information. Accuracy depends on the date of survey, method of survey and the nature of the feature being captured. Depending on the feature accuracy varies from 100m to 1 kilometre. Attribute accuracy: The features aren't extensively attributed but given the manner in which the data is processed we are confident nearly all attributes are correct. Some minimal checking of attribute values has been carried out. Please refer to metadata included on the data package for individual attribute reliability. Logical Consistency: All features have been visually checked for artefacts, intersecting line work, and correct attribute values. Checks have been carried out for duplicate lines. Topological checks, such as polygon closure, have been carried out. Sometimes checks that the features are real world entities have been carried out. Please refer to the metadata on the data package for individual datasets for descriptions of their logical consistency. Completeness: In most cases the data is complete. The entire study area is generally covered. In some cases, such as for bathymetry, features are discontinuous. Nearly all attribute fields have been populated. Please refer to the metadata on the data package for individual datasets for descriptions of their completeness. Contact information
