OZROX Field Geology DatabaseNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703003394 Title: OZROX Field Geology Database CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: These data represent the OZROX Field Geology Database containing location and field description information. Field descriptions include, information on lithology, stratigraphic unit, alteration, magnetic susceptibility, hand-held radiometric spectrometer response and structural measurements.OZROX has over 100 000 field sites derived mainly from Geoscience Australia's mapping, with additional contributions from Universities and State Surveys. Many of Geoscience Australia's laboratory databases link to OZROX in the corporate Oracle relational database system. These data are a snapshot at the "Ending Date" of the current database entries. The spatial representation of this database in (ArcView and MapInfo format) is extracted and generated using ArcInfo GIS software to meet the published data standard within the Geoscience Australia data dictionary. The extraction of the spatial GIS datasets is done within ArcInfo using advanced AML code (ORACOV.AML) developed by Dmitar Butrovski, Geoscience Australia. Positional accuracy: Nominal Scale 1:100 000 The positional accuracy is highly variable due to the varied source of information. Early field site descriptions entered into the database were derived from geologists freehand field notebooks and occasionally from publications. Since 1991 structured field notebooks have replaced the freehand notebooks. Most sites have been entered by non-geological staff and subsequently checked by the field geologist. From 1997 sites will increasingly be recorded digitally at the outcrop. Attribute accuracy: The attribute accuracy is highly variable due to the varied source of information. Database site descriptions are mostly derived from Geoscience Australia's geological mapping, however there are also descriptions from other organisations, particularly universities and state surveys. Logical Consistency: A geoscientist visually inspected the finished dataset to make sure the attributes were accurate and the data were consistent spatially with the quality-controlled database it was derived from. Tests are also carried out on these data for data completeness, correct spatial representation, attribute accuracy, logical consistency and correctness, and where appropriate for compliance with Geoscience Australia's GIS data dictionary. Completeness: The dataset coverage is complete for the whole of continental Australia. Contact information
