Description

Abstract:

Annually produced dataset of Australian on and offshore petroleum tenements. Undertaken in 2001 by Petrie, E and Quinn, C. AGSO. Mapping consists of on and offshore petroleum tenements, petroleum pipelines, oil and gas fields and new petroleum discoveries for 2000 - 2001.

Lineage:

The extent of the 2001 release areas have been decided upon by the Australian Federal Government Departments (AGSO and ISR) in conjunction with the relevant State Government Departments. The 2001 release areas were originally digitally captured in Microstation SE (Copyright Bentley Systems Inc.). The latitudes and longitudes of the area polygons were accurately plotted in a design file with a geographic co-ordinate system, using the AGD66 datum. New discovery information was obtained from AGSO's PEDIN database and accurately plotted in a design file. Pipeline and oil and gas field information was obtained from State Government and industry sources and plotted in a design file. All data was converted to ARCINFO coverages via AML's. Relevant data was added to the coverage database files.

Positional accuracy:

Tenement data is accurately positioned from provided coordinates, and thus plotted in a design file to their true position, similarly new discovery well positions. The tenement coordinates are accurate to five minute increaments, or to their intersection with state and/or international boundaries. Pipeline, oilfield, gasfield and oil and gasfield positional accuracy is unknown and should be treated as such.

Attribute accuracy:

Lease, license and new release name attributes contain an individual identifier and can therefore be considered accurate. The same can be said of new discovery data.

Logical Consistency:

Rigorous quality control has ensured consistency in data structures and standards across the dataset

Completeness:

All data is complete and has been checked.
