Bass Basin GIS project : an output of the Western Tasmanian Regional Minerals Program- navigationNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703004681 Title: Bass Basin GIS project : an output of the Western Tasmanian Regional Minerals Program- navigation CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: The navigation data comprises of clipped seismic navigation (three surveys which have been reprocessed) from Deep Seismic Marine Data Navigation Tracks from RV Rig Seismic {National Geoscience Dataset}, and a selection of industry derived seismic over the bass basin. The datasets are as follows:- ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp Reprocessed seismic of AGSO Survey 040, AGSO Survey 082, AGSO Survey 090 * industry_line.shp Seismic navigation only, shot by industry and obtained from state governments *sniffer_089_lines.shp & sniffer_089_points.shp The 'Sniffer' or Direct Hydrocarbon Detection (DHD) technique used to detect hydrocarbon seepage offshore involves towing a submerged tow-fish close to the seafloor and continuously pumping seawater into a geochemical laboratory on board where the hydrocarbons are extracted and measured by gas chromatography. The Direct Hydrocarbon Detection (DHD) method continuously analyses C1-C8 hydrocarbons within seawater. ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: Contact the Senior Project Scientist to discuss user requirements and costs Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp Extract of every 500th shotpoint from original Petrosys Database. This extracted ASCII file is used to generate a line coverage in ArcInfo, and attribute it with the survey information. industry_line.shp Data was supplied as navigation only (no shotpoints) in ArcView format (shape files). sniffer_089_lines.shp and sniffer_089_points.shp Data was supplied as Excel files originally. They were then converted to dbf files for easier access in Arc shape files. A common subset of the parameters used by GA for seepage studies was extracted for each of these types of surveys. Positional accuracy: ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp Nominal Scale 1:10,000 industry_line.shp Nominal Scale 1:100,000 sniffer_089_lines.shp and sniffer_089_points.shp Nominal Scale 1:10,000 Attribute accuracy: ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp High, only one attribute is extracted directly from a database. industry_line.shp High, the "name" attribute matches actually survey names. sniffer_089_lines.shp & sniffer_089_points.shp All attributes came from the original Excel files that were made when the survey was taking place. No changes were made. More information can be found at GeoCAT 34452. Logical Consistency: ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp A geoscientist visually inspected the finished dataset to make sure the attributes were accurate and the data were consistent spatially with current scientific information. Tests are also carried out on these data for data completeness, correct spatial representation, attribute accuracy, logical consistency and correctness, and where appropriate for compliance with Geoscience Australia's GIS data dictionary available at "http://www.agso.gov.au/general/technotes/20011112_53.jsp" industry_line.shp A geoscientist visually inspected the supplied dataset to make sure the attributes were accurate and the data were consistent spatially with current scientific information. Completeness: ga_reprocessed_line.shp, ga_reprocessed_shot.shp The dataset coverage is complete for marine areas of the Australian Jurisdictional Area. industry_line.shp The dataset is complete, lines were checked visually for navigational and survey name errors.
