Global Map. Global Map elevation of Australia. 1Million 2001Note: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703005241 Title: Global Map. Global Map elevation of Australia. 1Million 2001 CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: The Global Map Australia 1M 2001 is a digital dataset covering the Australian landmass and island territories at 1:1 million scale. This is part of the Global Mapping Project managed by the International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM). The ultimate intention of the project is to provide data for all land areas to assist global monitoring of environmental change. It consists of eight layers of information: four vector (administrative boundaries, drainage, transportation and population centres) and four raster layers (elevation, vegetation, land use and land cover). It consists of eight layers of information: four vector (administrative boundaries, drainage, transportation, and population centres) and four raster (elevation, vegetation, land cover and land use). Vector data was produced by generalising Geoscience Australia's GEODATA TOPO 250K Series 1 data and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) provided the raster images. ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: The data are subject to Copyright. Data files may be downloaded from Geoscience Australia's website at www.ga.gov.au/download/. A licence agreement is required. Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: Vector data was produced by generalising Geoscience Australia's GEODATA TOPO 250K Series 1 data and updated using Series 2 data where available in January 2001. Raster data was sourced from USGS and updated using GEODATA 9 Second DEM Series 2, 1:5 million, Vegetation - Present (1988) and National Land and Water Resources data. However, updates have not been subjected to thorough vetting. A more detailed land use classification for Australia is available at www.nlwra.gov.au. Positional accuracy: The data complies with the following statement of horizontal accuracy: 90% of points have an absolute horizontal accuracy of +/- 2km. In the case of data obtained from satellite images, the maximum error is +/- 0.5km. The vertical accuracy is notionally +150 metres for 90% of points. Attribute accuracy: For the Global Map Australia 1M 2001 product, attribute accuracy is a measure of the degree to which the attribute values of features agree with the information on the source material. There is a maximum error in attribute accuracy of 5%, at a 99% confidence level. Logical Consistency: Logical consistency was validated by tests to check that table and file names are set out as in the Data Dictionary. Graphical tests checking such things as intersections, polygon closure, minimum sizes of polygons and length of linear features were also carried out. Completeness: All instances of a feature and its attribute values that meet the selection criteria and appear on the source materials are captured. The data is generalised so the selection of features is to some extent subjective. Contact information

It consists of vector and raster layers of administrative boundaries, drainage, transportation, population centres, elevation, vegetation, land use and land cover data. BEGINNING DATE: 1999-07-01 ENDING DATE: 2001-06-30 PROGRESS: Complete MAINTENANCE AND UPDATE FREQUENCY: Not Planned ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: The data are subject to Commonwealth of Australia Copyright. A licence agreement is required. LINEAGE: The Australian component of the Global Map vector data is primarily sourced from TOPO-250K Series 1 and other feature based reference databases held by AUSLIG. 1:1M MAPDATA based upon the World Aeronautical Charts (WACs) was used to derive the appropriate amount of detail for the Global Map. The source data for the raster data layers was supplied by the United States Geological Survey and consisted of the revised Global 30" Elevation dataset (GTOPO30) produced by EROS and data derived from the Global Landcover Characteristics Database (CLCCD), a cooperative venture between USGS, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). The land cover, land use and vegetation layers were edited by AUSLIG to reflect some errors of classification. However, it was not subjected to a thorough vetting. POSITIONAL ACCURACY: Global Map data complies with the following statement of horizontal accuracy: 90% of points have an absolute horizontal accuracy of less than or equal to +2km. In the case of data obtained from satellite images, the maximum error is less than or equal to 0.5km. The vertical accuracy is notionally +150 metres for 90% of points. ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY: For the global Map product, attribute accuracy is a measure of the degree to which the attribute values of features agree with the information on the source material. There is a maximum error in attribute accuracy of 5%, at a 99% confidence level. LOGICAL CONSISTENCY: Logical consistency is a measure of the degree to which data complies with the technical specification. Logical consistency was validated by tests to check that table and file names are set out as in the Data Dictionary. Graphical tests checking such things as intersections, polygon closure, minimum sizes of polygons and length of linear features were also carried out. COMPLETENESS: Completeness is a measure of the degree to which all features listed in the technical specification have been captured, in accordance with the selection criteria, definitions and other rules specified. All instances of a feature and its attribute values that meet the selection criteria and appear on the source materials are captured. The data is generalised so the selection of features is to some extent subjective.
