Custodian: Geoscience Australia

Jurisdiction: Australia

Description

Abstract:

Video footage of the asea bed was collected to characterise the substrate, morphology, habitats and benthic biota in the study area. A vidoe camera was lowered to the seabed and recorded a minimun of three minutes of video. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the Survey report.

Lineage:

All data was collected on the Survey between 28 March 2004 and 18 April 2004. Approximately 3-5 minutes of video was captured at each site and 1.5 minutes was capured every 20 minutes for the 24-hour stations. At each site the the video footage recored was edited down to 20-30 second snippets that showed the major habitats, biota and sedimentary processes that were observed at each station. The video was edited using standard video editing soft ware.

Positional accuracy:

The survey was conducted on the vessel R.V James Kirby. The vessel was equip with a differential GPS giving locational accuracy to within 1m.

Attribute accuracy:

Grab samples and sub samples from 2cm interval down the vibro cores were ananysied form percentage gravel sand, mud and for percentage of carbonate in bulk sample, and in the gravel sand and mud fractions. Cores were also analysied for physical properties by the Multi Sensor Core Logger. Water samples were filtered to determine the concentartion of suspended solids. Under water video footage has been described.

Logical Consistency:

not known

Completeness:

Final Report has been published. All 20-30 second snippets are available via the Marine Samples (MARS) database web page.
