Description

Abstract:

In 2007 a RESOLVE frequency domain airborne electromagnetic survey was flown over and adjacent to a stretch of the River Murray along the western border separating Victoria and New South Wales, Australia. The survey was commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry through the Bureau of Rural Sciences and funded under the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality. The data are being publicly released through Geoscience Australia's National Airborne Geophysics Database (Project #1141).

The dataset includes the final processed RESOLVE AEM inphase and quadrature data, apparent conductivity and depth, and conductivity predictions produced by EmFlow conductivity depth transforms. The AEM survey data include point located and gridded datasets, and the survey acquisition and processing report prepared by the survey contractor Fugro Airborne Surveys.

The point located data are stored in ASCII files (.XYZ) formatted with space-delimited columns with an associated comprehensive header (.hdr) file which describes the data and the numeric format of each column in the file. Each record represents one sample along a flight line. The gridded data are stored as ErMapper binary raster grid files. The report is stored in Portable Document Format (.pdf). The whole dataset is stored ZIP files.

Lineage:

The AEM survey data were acquired and processed by the airborne geophysical survey contractor Fugro Airborne Surveys. Details on the acquisition and processing are available in Farquhar (2008), which is included in the dataset.

Positional accuracy:

Positioning was via post-processed differential GPS methods. Horizontal positional accuracy of the data is approximately 1 metre (standard deviation).

Attribute accuracy:

The data have been acquired and processed to a standard of best practice as of the year 2007. More sophisticated processing algorithms may be applied to these data should they become available.
