OZTemp Well Temperature DataNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703013802 Title: OZTemp Well Temperature Data CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia / OEMD Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: This is an extract from the OZTemp database, an updated and improved version of the AUSTHERM05 borehole temperature database previously described by Chopra and Holgate (2005). OZTemp currently contains 5513 individual wells and 17247 temperature and/or temperature gradient data records. Only open file data has been included in this extract. ANZLIC search words:

The Austherm database in turn evolved from another database called Geotherm compiled by Somerville et al (1994). The data has been collated from a large nuber of sources including, well completion reports, state survey databases, company data, published heat flow data and temperature logs recorded be Geoscience Australia. OZTemp currently contains 5513 individual wells and 17247 temperature and/or temperature gradient data records. Positional accuracy: Due to the range of sources of this data the positional accuracy varies greatly. Broadly speaking the older data is less accurately positioned than much of the more recent data. Some idea of the positional accuracy can be gained from the resolution of the original spatial data. Records with spatial data other than GDA94 Lat/Long were reported using a coordinate system other than geographic coordinate on the GDA94 datum. Attribute accuracy: While every attempt has been made to check the accuracy of the data, the providence of the data means that this is an imprecise task. Many records have been flagged as either unreliable or as duplicates (either spatial or actual) of other wells. This is indicated in the 'Krig Flag' and 'Temp Flag' attributes. Logical Consistency: All records have unique identifiers. Where available records have also been attributed with the well name and a corresponding Entity Number (ENO) from the Pedin Database. Completeness: This is a compilation of available data from many sources. Despite the range of sources there are still large tracts of the continent that do not have any data. Efforts are being made to improve the coverage and it is hoped that this dataset will be updated to reflect this. Contact information
