The data was created in ArcGIS Desktop using the following procedure. 1.converted the coast250k polygon feature class into a line feature class; 2.selected Australian main coast lines, tasmania, and several offshore major islands; 3. simplified the selected features using a 30 km tolerance; 4. project the line feature class to world sinusoidal. 5. calculated euclidean distance from it to obtain the ArcInfo grid.

Positional accuracy:

Given that the Australian coastline has been simplified using a 30 km tolerance, the positional

accuracy is about 30 km.

Attribute accuracy:

Not applicable, as there is not any attribute associated with the raster data.

Logical Consistency:

Visual assessment on the raster data indicates that its logical consistency is good.
