Backscatter grid of the southwestern block of the Jervis BayNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703015320 Title: Backscatter grid of the southwestern block of the Jervis Bay CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Geoscience Australia carried out marine surveys in Jervis Bay (NSW) in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (GA303, GA305, GA309, GA312) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments (for textural and biogeochemical analysis) and infauna, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video and stills photography, and measurement of ocean tides and wavegenerated currents. Data and samples were acquired using the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) Research Vessel Kimbla. Bathymetric mapping, sampling and tide/wave measurement were concentrated in a 3x5 km survey grid (named Darling Road Grid, DRG) within the southern part of the Jervis Bay, incorporating the bay entrance. Additional sampling and stills photography plus bathymetric mapping along transits was undertaken at representative habitat types outside the DRG. darlingrd_1m is an ArcGIS layer of the backscatter grid of the Darling Road survey area produced from the processed EM3002 and EM3002D backscatter data of the survey area using the CMST-GA MB Process ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: This material is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia Licence. Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: The grid values are basically the average values of the processed backscatter point data within each grid cell of predefined size Positional accuracy: Inherited from raw data in which C-NAV system was used to provide geographical postion with a manufacturer accuracy of 10 cm RMS. Inherited from raw data in which Applanix system was used to provide roll and pitch, and heave with manufacturer accuracies for roll and pitch are 0.05 deg. RMS, and manufacturer accuracy for heave is 5 cm. Attribute accuracy: The accuracy is high but it is cell size dependent. Note that the water depth dictates the cell size. Logical Consistency: All procedures, steps and software involved in producing a backscatter grid are similar Completeness: Completed Contact information
