Lord Howe Island infaunal diversityNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703016184 Title: Lord Howe Island infaunal diversity CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Geoscience Australia carried out a marine survey on Lord Howe Island shelf (NSW) in 2008 (SS06_2008) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments and infauna, rock coring, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video, and measurement of ocean tides and wave generated currents. Subbottom profile data was also collected to map sediment thickness and shelf stratigraphy. Data and samples were acquired using the National Facility Research Vessel Southern Surveyor. Bathymetric data from this survey was merged with other preexisting bathymetric data (including LADS) to generate a grid covering 1034 sq km. As part of a separate Geoscience Australia survey in 2007 (TAN0713), an oceanographic mooring was deployed on the northern edge of Lord Howe Island shelf. The mooring was recovered during the 2008 survey following a 6 month deployment. Sample diversity indices calculated in PRIMER (version 6) using the species level data from LHI_Infauna_species (27Oct10).csv ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: This material is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia Licence. Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: Species level data was imported into PRIMER (v6). The diversity analysis was run to calculate: S = species richness N = abundance d = Margalefs index J = Piellous evenness H = Shannon Weiner Positional accuracy: Positions were recorded from the same GPS as was used for the multibeam mapping. The southern surveyor has paired bow and stern thrusters and is very good at staying on station, but the positional accuracy for grabs will decrease with increasing depth. Attribute accuracy: This is a derived data from the species data (LHI_Infauna_species (27Oct10).csv). The attribute accuracy is directly depended on the attribute accuracy of the species data. Logical Consistency: The material was treated in a consistent fashion and all samples were sorted and all material identified my Matthew McArthur. Completeness: All available samples were processed.
