Raw multibeam backscatter data of Jarvis BayNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703016228 Title: Raw multibeam backscatter data of Jarvis Bay CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Geoscience Australia carried out marine surveys in Jervis Bay (NSW) in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (GA303, GA305, GA309, GA312) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments (for textural and biogeochemical analysis) and infauna, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video and stills photography, and measurement of ocean tides and wave generated currents. Data and samples were acquired using the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) Research Vessel Kimbla. Bathymetric mapping, sampling and tide/wave measurement were concentrated in a 3x5 km survey grid (named Darling Road Grid, DRG) within the southern part of the Jervis Bay, incorporating the bay entrance. Additional sampling and stills photography plus bathymetric mapping along transits was undertaken at representative habitat types outside the DRG. The "kimbla" folder contains raw multibeam backscatter data from four surveys archived seperately in 0303_jervis_trials, 0305_jervisbay2, 0311_jervisbay3 and 0313_jervis_trials4. The raw multibeam backscatter data were collected along survey lines using GAs Kongsberg SIMRAD EM3002 in single head and dual head configuration from aboard Work Boat Kimbla ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: The raw data is not to be released. Contact custodian for more information. Order ProductData qualityLineage: Kongsberg SIMRAD EM3002 multibeam sonar operating at 300kHz with 1.5x1.5 deg beamwidth was used to acquire the backscatter and bathymetry data Positional accuracy: C_NAV system was used to provide geographical postion with a manufacturer accuracy of 10 cm RMS. Applanix system was used to provide roll and pitch, and heave with manufacturer accuracies for roll and pitch are 0.05 deg. RMS, and manufacturer accuracy for heave is 5 cm. Attribute accuracy: The accuracy is quite high because of the narrow beam that the sonar system uses and the high positional accuracy that the auxiliary sensors provide. The patch test conducted at the beginning of the survey and routine SVP casts during the survey contribute to high accuracy that the system used can provide Logical Consistency: The same setting, data acqusition procedure, and patch test and calibration procedure and methodology were consistanly applied to whole survey Completeness: Completed Contact information
