Processed multibeam backscatter data of the Lord Howe RiseNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703016231 Title: Processed multibeam backscatter data of the Lord Howe Rise CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Geoscience Australia carried out a marine survey on Lord Howe Island shelf (NSW) in 2008 (SS062008) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments and infauna, rock coring, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video, and measurement of ocean tides and wavegenerated currents. Subbottom profile data was also collected to map sediment thickness and shelf stratigraphy. Data and samples were acquired using the National Facility Research Vessel Southern Surveyor. Bathymetric data from this survey was merged with other preexisting bathymetric data (including LADS) to generate a grid covering 1034 sq km. As part of a separate Geoscience Australia survey in 2007 (TAN0713), an oceanographic mooring was deployed on the northern edge of Lord Howe Island shelf. The mooring was recovered during the 2008 survey following a 6 month deployment. The "2461_ss062008" folder contains processed multibeam backscatter data of the Lord Howe Rise. The SIMRAD EM300 multibeam backscatter data were processed using the CMST-GA MB Process, a multibeam processing toolbox codeveloped by Geoscience Australia and Curtin University of Technology ANZLIC search words:

Access constraints: The processed data is not to be released. Contact custodian for more information. Order ProductData qualityLineage: The backscatter data were processed using CMST-GA MB Process v8.11.02.1 software. The fully processed backscatter strengths were corrected for transmission loss and insonification area. The process within the toolbox also involved removal of the system transmission loss, removal of the system model, calculation of the incidence angle and removal of the angular dependence. The angularly equalised backscatter strengths were normalised to the backscatter strength at an angle of 25 degrees Positional accuracy: Inherited from raw data in which C-NAV system was used to provide geographical postion with a manufacturer accuracy of 10 cm RMS. Inherited from raw data in which Applanix system was used to provide roll and pitch, and heave with manufacturer accuracies for roll and pitch are 0.05 deg. RMS, and manufacturer accuracy for heave is 5 cm. Attribute accuracy: The accuracy is high since all the computaion has been conducted in double precision Logical Consistency: All procedures and steps involved in backscatter processing within the software used were kept similar Completeness: Completed Contact information
