Marine Seismic Surveys Shape files and Kml filesNote: This metadata describes the dataset in accordance with the ANZLIC (Australia New Zealand Land Information Council) Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2. Dataset citationANZLIC unique identifier: ANZCW0703016523 Title: Marine Seismic Surveys Shape files and Kml files CustodianCustodian: Geoscience Australia Jurisdiction: Australia DescriptionAbstract: Geoscience Australia has been updating its collection of navigation for marine seismic surveys in Australia. These include original navigation files, the 2003 SNIP navigation files and digitised survey track maps. The result will be an updated cleansed navigation collection. The collection is based on the SNIP format P190 navigation file which follows the UKOOA standard. Industry standard metadata associated with a seismic survey is preserved. To assist industry, Geoscience Australia is making available its updated version of cleansed navigation. Although the process of updating the navigation data is ongoing and there is still legacy data to check, the navigation data is at a point where a significant improvement has been achieved and it is now usable. Users should be aware that this navigation is not final and there may be errors. Geoscience Australia (email - AusGeodata@ga.gov.au) appreciates being notified of any errors found. The data is available in both KML and Shape file formats. The KML file can be viewed using a range of applications including Google Earth, NASA WorldWind, ESRI ArcGIS Explorer, Adobe PhotoShop, AutoCAD3D or any other earth browser (geobrowser) that accepts KML formatted data. Alternatively the Shape files can be downloaded and viewed using any application that supports shape files. Access constraints: This material is released under the Creative Common Attribution 3.0 Australia Licence. Free Data DownloadData qualityLineage: Data collected from marine navigation. For navigation sourced from the GA Data Repository or the DAs the copyright remains with the original owner, although after the passage of time the current copyright owner for any specific item of information is very difficult to determine with any confidence. Copyright ownership is irrelevant given the rights conferred on the Commonwealth and DAs by legislation for data lodged under the OPGGSA and predecessors. For navigation sourced from SNIP the IP is irrelevant as the navigation has also come from a collection that was submitted under the OPGGSA legislation. GA also purchased the Fugro SNIP dataset and all rights. All other navigation has been acquired by GA whilst running marine surveys. Positional accuracy: Navigation has been sourced from a variety of navigation instruments over the period included (1970s to 2008). Accuracy is dependent on the year of acquisition. Also some of the data has been digitised from track maps of lower resolution. Attribute accuracy: Navigation has been sourced from a variety of navigation instruments over the period included (1970s to 2008). Accuracy is dependent on the year of acquisition. Also some of the data has been digitised from track maps of lower resolution. Logical Consistency: For the navigation files checked each of the navigation survey data was examined visually against the acquisition report to check accuracy including ensuring that all lines of a seismic survey are included. Completeness: There is an attribute in the shape and kml files commenting on the completeness of the checking of this navigation. Contact information
