The Rugosity grid calculates the "true" surface area in relation to the planar surface area. It represents the rugosity of an area of seabed (Jenness, 2004). Higher values indicate more rugose seafloor. The grid was created from the bathymetry grid of Darwin Harbour. Please see the metadata of the bathymetry grid for more details (GeoCat No: 74915).

An ArcInfo Marco Language program was created to generate rugosity grid at a nominated window size. In this case, the window size used was 3 by 3.

Positional accuracy:

the same as the bathymetry grid of Darwin Harbour

Attribute accuracy:

The grid is a direct derivative of the bathymetry grid of Darwin Harbour. Therefore, its attribute accuracy is directly related to that of the bathymetry grid.
