Abstract

We are developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) for use by participants in the Central Gawler Gold (CGG) Sub-Project (GA, PIRSA and CRC LEME). It complements existing products from Primary Industries and Resources, South Australia (PIRSA), such as their low-cost state-wide MGA GIS DVD available through SARIG. The CGG GIS is available as an ArcGIS compilation of ESRI shapefiles and images, and ECW compressed images, projected to zone 53 of the Map Grid of Australia. The GIS is the third step in the preparation of making new data available for interpretation by parties working in the Central Gawler area. The GIS is expected to grow and change as new data are added, but is not designed to replace existing corporate databases. The GIS is being used by the project partners as a convenient short term location for datasets to be massaged and formatted ready for storage in long-term databases, or until suitable long-term storage is designed. The CGG GIS contains many newly compiled and processed datasets, including: -Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) survey locations -"Worms", generated from gravity and magnetics grids (images developed from the raw 400m grids are also provided for reference) -Calcrete locations, assays and grids, compiled and processed by PIRSA -The latest tenement data -Processed and merged ASTER spaceborne scanner data, including false colour composites, regolith-enhanced scenes and an ASTER-derived DEM -Interpreted Crystalline Solid Geology, and -Company open-file envelope data. Participants and interested parties should feel free to contact the CGG teams in Adelaide via Mike Schwarz at PIRSA (08 8463 3084) or Canberra via Roger Skirrow (02 6249 9442) to enquire about adding to or using this GIS.
