Abstract

We have analysed the shipborne magnetic data interms of depth to magnetic basement and tried to find out the basement structure independently from the magnetic and reconcile with the seismic interpretation. Our result indicates a possible depocentre at the northwest part of the study area, which is in agreement with the resimic result. The depocenter is about 6 km deep and extending NNW-ESE direction and the study also suggests the presence of a ridge at the centre of the study area and trending along N-S direction. The structures derived from the magnetic are broadly matching with the seismic results. So, the technique may be useful for delineating the sediment pocket inside the basin, thus help in shoring out the zone of interest inside the basin for further detail survey.
