Release of Point Located Data

Geoscience Australia and the Northern Territory Geological Survey announce the release of 4,500 line km of airborne gravity data acquired over an area in West Arnhem Land. The diagram below shows the location of the survey.

These airborne gravity data were acquired as part of a joint project between Geoscience Australia, the Northern Territory Geological Survey, Cameco Australia Pty Ltd and Rio Tinto Exploration Pty Ltd.

The survey was flown by Fugro Airborne Surveys Pty Ltd using Canadian Micro Gravity's GT1-A airborne gravimeter. Data acquisition occurred between 30 August and 15 September 2003 at a line spacing of 2km and a constant barometric flying height of 600m above mean sea level. Lines were oriented in an east - west direction with tie lines in a north - south direction. This data release includes the terrain corrected gravity values presented as Complete Bouguer Anomaly values.

Survey results will be presented at NTGS' Annual Geoscience Exploration Seminar in Alice Springs on 23 March 2004. For details see AGES 2004.

The data may be downloaded for free from the Geoscience Australia website at the Minerals Download web page, or via the Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System (GADDS).

West Arnhem Land survey data and images can also be downloaded free of charge from the Northern Territory Geological Survey website via Regional Gravity.

Alternatively, the West Arnhem Land airborne gravity data set is released on one CD-ROM, which also contains the March 2004 release of the entire Australian National Gravity Database.

Geoscience Australia will supply the point located digital data and grids on CD-ROM at a cost of $99.00 (including GST), plus postage and packing. A copy of the CD-ROM containing the West Arnhem Land airborne gravity data set, the Australian National Gravity Database and Gravity Grid of the Australian Region (2001) may be purchased from the GA Sales Centre.
