The Minerals Exploration Promotion project aims to generate an increased awareness of mineral exploration opportunities in Australia and of the pre-competitive geoscience information which is available to support mineral exploration in Australia.
Australia is one of the World's leading mineral exploration destinations accounting for about 12% of World non-ferrous mineral exploration budgets in 2007. Geoscience Australia aims to facilitate an increase in that percentage by promoting both the benefits of exploring in Australia and the geoscience information available to reduce exploration risk.
Pre-competitive geoscience information is available from Geoscience Australia and the State and Northern Territory Geological Surveys through the Australian Geoscience Portal.
Geoscience Australia's mineral exploration promotional activities are undertaken in partnership with the State and Northern Territory Geological Surveys as well as agencies with responsibility for mining and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. The program is coordinated through the Chief Government Geologists Conference and a committee of the Ministerial Council on Minerals and Petroleum Resources.
Comprehensive information for investors in mineral and petroleum exploration and development is available from the Invest Australia and Australian Mines Atlas websites.
