Tasmania's Exploration Extravaganza Week

A four-day excursion and one-day seminar on Tasmanian Palaeozoic granites, mineralisation and mineral potential, and an exploration conference will be held between 22 and 27 May 2005. The program will include:

• Sunday 22 May to Wednesday 25 May: A field excursion visiting some of the most important sites for Devonian granites and granite-related mineralisation in northern Tasmania.
• Thursday 26 May: A Tasmanian-based granite metallogenesis seminar will be held at the Rosny Park offices of Mineral Resources Tasmania.
• Friday 27 May: The Tasmanian Minerals Council will host their annual Exploration Conference at The Old Woolstore, Hobart. Attendees will be given an insight into the companies which are actively exploring in Tasmania - greenfields and brownfields.

Contracts awarded for the next set of large surveys to increase regional geophysical coverage of Western Australia

Contracts have been awarded for the next set of large surveys in the West Australian government's four year, $12 million program to increase regional geophysical coverage of Western Australia.

The Western Australia Geological Survey, in conjunction with Geoscience Australia, are conducting an extensive airborne magnetic and radiometric survey in the Paterson Province of Western Australia.

UTS Geophysics and Fugro Airborne Surveys have been engaged to acquire 200,000 line-kilometres of magnetic and radiometric data over an area of approximately 70 000 km2 in the Paterson-Rudall region.

The new data will be acquired on lines spaced 400 metres apart with a ground clearance of 60 metres above ground level.

Geoscience Australia will be managing the flying program, which commenced in March 2005.

Minerals Division scientists presented five talks at the recent AGES conference in Alice Springs. Presentations were given by Mike Craig, Jon ClauoeLong, Lesley Wyborn, Andrew Cross and Tony Meixner.
